As part of the Student Exchange Programme (SEP), 53 students of the premier Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) will head to partner universities in foreign countries.
Problem of plenty: Engineering seats lying vacant in West Bengal 29/08/2010
Engineering education in West Bengal is facing a problem of plenty. Around 6,238 seats are lying vacant after the second round of counselling and the reasons are manifold. A third round of counselling is slated between August 29 and 31, to fill up the vacancies.
IIT-Kharagpur hopes to get Cabinet nod for medical school 29/08/2010
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-K) might finally get a go ahead with its plans to set up a medical school and hospital.Since it signed a $50-million MoU with the University of California, San Diego, last year to set up a 750-bed state-of-the-art hospital and research centre at the IIT, the institute had been pursuing the case with the Union HRD Ministry.

IIMs and Prometric announced in a media statement that vouchers for CAT 2010 would be available for sale at select Axis Bank branches from August 30 through September 27. Registration and scheduling would open on August 30 and close on September 30. In addition to this, Prometric said it would also release a collection of short videos taht will be made available online to familiarise candidates with the registration and scheduling process, test day procedures and other aspects of CAT. In order to ensure candidates are appropriately prepared, a separate video would be developed to explain the scoring method.

Auditor mindset needs to undergo change 22/08/2010
Section 227 of the Companies Act 1956 requires an auditor to express an opinion on if the balancesheet presents a true and fair view of the state of the companys affairs at the end of the financial year and whether the profit and loss account presents a true and fair view of the profit or loss for the financial year. It also requires an auditor to state specifically whether, in his opinion, the profit and loss account and the balance sheet comply with accounting standards. Auditing and Assurance Standard (AAS) 28 requires the auditor to express an opinion on whether the financial statements give a true and fair view in conformity with the accounting principles generally accepted in India.

But as the world turns more social because of the Facebooks, Orkuts, YouTubes and Twitters of the world we are breaking out of the passive-participant mould. The consumer is reacting and influencing others opinions. This throws up challenges for marketers and advertisers. Lucy Jameson, executive strategy director of DDB UK and chair of DDBs Global Planning Futures Group, believes that in todays socially-networked and hyper-connected world, its not enough to craft a message that just touches the individual. But thats precisely what AirAsia, the largest low-cost carrier in South-East Asia, has done. It was expensive, and it wasted a lot of their time.
